More importantly, one must consider life-cycle emissions including manufacture and disposal of the highly toxic lithium ion battery. When the full life cycle of an electric vehicle is calculated, one finds that an EV has much higher air pollution and carbon emissions than either a hybrid or an internal combustion engine. Thus, Newsom is simply virtue signaling, not using actual science as a guide for his absurd ban.
We shall all suffer from his arbitrary decisions, including our wallets, our freedom of choice and even our air quality. Few people realize that air pollution actually skyrocketed in the USA in 2021 under the Newsom/Biden bans on natural gas, since the USA actually increased coal burning to meet energy demands.
