Competitor Charlene Nijmeh to Endorse Congressional Candidate Peter Hernandez
In the March Primary Peter Hernandez and Zoe Lofgren finished in the TOP 2 and are running for Congressional District 18 in the November election. Finishing third in March was Democrat Charlene Nijmeh who managed to take 11% of the vote away from Lofgren.
Charlene Nijmeh is the Tribal Chairwoman of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. The Ohlones are the indigenous people of the Bay Area who are frustrated trying to work with Lofgren. The longtime congresswoman is the subject of intense criticism for her mistreatment of the Tribe, which includes a January 2023 conversation on Capitol Hill in which Lofgren demanded that Tribal Chairwoman Charlene Nijmeh sign away a vast swath of the Tribe’s rights and freedoms in exchange for legislation that would correct the federal government’s mistake.
On Tuesday, August 13th, on the steps of San Jose City Hall, the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe will hold a rally at 4 PM, at which Tribal Chairwoman Charlene Nijmeh will endorse a REPUBLICAN, Peter Hernandez, over the DEMOCRAT, Zoe Lofgren. This endorsement is a game changer for the Hernandez Campaign.
Chairwoman Nijmeh and other tribal members will be arriving by horseback at City Hall at 4:00 pm Tuesday afternoon. She'll be accompanied by The Low Riders and a motorcycle club. They will depart Emma Prusch Park toward City Hall at 3:00 pm, heading up King Road to Santa Clara Street, and then Santa Clara Street to City Hall. It should take about an hour to walk to City Hall. You're welcome to walk along if you're up for it, or meet them outside City Hall at 4PM.
If you caught Channel 7 ABC News on Monday, you saw Tribal Chairwoman Nijmeh lead a caravan of horses over the Golden Gate Bridge as they start their trek to Washington, DC to protest Lofgren. Riding on horseback, the Tribe will be participating in the August 13th rally at 4 PM.
Please join us at San Jose City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose, and participate in this event! If you're interested in hearing more about the event, join a Zoom meeting the evening before by clicking this link.
